Claudeforce: Claude AI Meets Salesforce — What It Actually Changes
On August 26, 2026 — the same day Salesforce reported Q2 FY27 earnings — the company announced Claudeforce: an expanded strategic partnership with Anthropic that runs in both directions at once. Claude enters Salesforce as a reasoning model, and Salesforce enters Claude as a plugin with 37 prebuilt sales skills. This isn't a chatbot bolted onto the surface — it's a fundamental shift in how humans interact with CRM.
The Two Directions of Claudeforce
Understanding this distinction is key to grasping the technical impact:
- Claude → Salesforce: Claude is now the default reasoning model in the Atlas Reasoning Engine, Agentforce Vibes, Agentforce Coworker, and Agent Builder
- Salesforce → Claude: the 'Salesforce in Claude' plugin gives Claude direct access to live CRM data with 37 prebuilt sales skills
- Claude is also the default model for Slack AI, Slackbot, and Slack Code
- Both directions are live — the plugin is in pilot, open beta expected September 2026
Technical Architecture: Headless 360 and the 4 MCP Tools
Under the hood, the 'Salesforce in Claude' plugin runs on Salesforce's Headless 360 MCP server (platform/headless-360). This server intentionally exposes a minimal surface — just 4 tools:
- discover — lists the Salesforce objects accessible to the authenticated user
- describe — returns the full schema of an object (fields, types, relationships)
- dispatch — executes a write action (create/update a record, trigger a Flow)
- dispatch_readonly — runs a read-only SOQL query
- Every call is scoped to the authenticated user — Claude only sees what that user is authorized to see in the org
Authentication: External Client App + OAuth 2.0
To connect Claude to your Salesforce org, you create an External Client App (ECA) in Setup. This controls exactly what Claude can do in your org:
- In Setup → External Client Apps → New: create an app with the mcp_api scope
- Grab the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret
- In Claude.ai → Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector: enter your org's MCP server URL
- Enter the Consumer Key/Secret in Advanced Settings
- Click 'Connect' → standard Salesforce OAuth 2.0 authentication
- Once connected, Claude will request permission to use the connector — select 'Always allow' for a smooth workflow
Security: Claude Stays Inside the Salesforce Trust Boundary
This is the key argument for regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, public sector): Claude is served via Amazon Bedrock INSIDE Salesforce's security perimeter. Data doesn't make a round trip to an external API — it stays within Salesforce infrastructure.
- No separate permissions model to design or maintain: Claude inherits the user's existing Salesforce permissions
- An admin connects the plugin once → profiles, roles, and object-level security apply automatically
- No customer data sent to Anthropic for training (enterprise contract terms)
- Prompt Builder remains compatible with other models — no forced vendor lock-in
The 37 'Salesforce in Claude' Skills: What They Do
The plugin launches with 37 sales-focused skills. In practice, using natural language from within Claude, a sales rep can:
- Update the stage, amount, or close date of an opportunity
- Create a contact or lead directly in the CRM
- Query the pipeline in real time ('What are my at-risk deals this quarter?')
- Generate an account summary with all recent interactions
- Trigger a Salesforce Flow from the conversation
- Additional skills beyond sales are planned for Q4 2026
Claude in Agent Builder and the Atlas Reasoning Engine
On the Agentforce side, IT teams can select Claude as the reasoning model in Agent Builder, on a per-agent basis. The Atlas Reasoning Engine — the engine that plans the steps of an autonomous agent — runs on Claude by default. The Agentforce + Claude combination enables multi-step reasoning over complex business workflows that previous models struggled with.
What This Means for Sales Teams
Patrick Stokes, Salesforce's President of Applications & Marketing, framed the strategic bet plainly: 'When people stop using Salesforce through the traditional human interface and start using it through an agentic interface, it dramatically increases the value of Salesforce.' In practice, sales reps who shift to this workflow report no longer opening Lightning Experience for routine updates — everything flows through Claude.
